Job Overview: The Global Business DevelopmentAdviser – Climate will play a crucial role in driving new business development strategies and enhancing NRC's funding partnerships, particularly in the area of climate adaptation within humanitarian responses. This position requires the adviser to engage with donors, funders, and financial institutions while collaborating closely with NRC’s Country, Regional, and Head Offices to optimize funding opportunities. The adviser will be responsible for developing value propositions that include private sector engagement and will support NRC in securing complex climate adaptation and mitigation grants and contracts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business development within the humanitarian-development sector, with a focus on climate-related initiatives. This role is pivotal in ensuring that NRC can effectively respond to the challenges posed by climate change and humanitarian crises.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Global Business Development Adviser will lead the establishment of business development processes, which include mapping the funding landscape and identifying key actors. The adviser will develop NRC’s positioning and influence in the climate adaptation space and strengthen internal collaboration with donors and potential partners. Key responsibilities include advising the Global team on Climate and Environment, assisting country offices in enhancing their expertise in private sector design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and management, and networking with relevant organizations such as commercial sectors, climate experts, and financing institutions. The adviser will also engage with government and parliamentary initiatives, identify investment areas for innovative programming, and work closely with the Corporate Team to seek potential donors and partners at both global and country levels.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of relevant experience in the humanitarian-development sector, with at least five years specifically in Business Development. A proven track record of successful bidding for commercial/service contracts and complex grants is essential. The ideal candidate should have experience in leading business development strategies, regional fundraising, and partnerships, along with in-depth knowledge of institutional donors’ strategies and compliance guidelines. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate experience in strategic approaches to business development and working in complex and volatile contexts, preferably with previous experience in the Middle East. A commitment to collaborative work with technical and operational colleagues is also required, along with experience in delivering learning and development as part of quality improvement and capacity building.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required for this position, typically including a degree in international development, business administration, environmental science, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in climate change adaptation, humanitarian response, or business development may be advantageous and are often preferred by employers in this sector.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in the humanitarian-development sector, with a strong emphasis on business development. This experience should include a successful history of securing funding through complex grants and contracts, as well as a demonstrated ability to lead business development strategies and partnerships. Experience in high-level representation and engagement with institutional donors is also critical, particularly in relation to climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly in languages relevant to the regions where NRC operates, such as Arabic or French, which could enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and partners.
