Job Overview:
The Automation Technician position at CERN is a critical role that involves the operation and development of automation systems for HVAC, sanitary, and electrical equipment. The successful candidate will work within the Infrastructure Section of the Site Asset Management Group, which is responsible for the maintenance and design of essential installations across CERN. This role requires a skilled technician who can contribute to the continuous improvement of automation systems, ensuring they meet quality standards and project specifications. The technician will be involved in troubleshooting, monitoring, and upgrading automation systems, playing a vital part in CERN's environmental goals and the well-being of its campus community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As an Automation Technician, you will be tasked with designing, modeling, operating, maintaining, and upgrading industrial automation systems specifically for HVAC, sanitary, and electrical installations. You will troubleshoot and resolve issues related to automation systems and equipment, collaborating closely with technical teams, contractors, and other stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that all automation work adheres to relevant quality standards and project deadlines. You will monitor the installation and performance of automated systems, prepare dashboards and reports, and verify the settings and configurations of controllers. Additionally, you will integrate SCADA systems, create control loop diagrams, and draft documentation for automated systems, ensuring their proper operation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a technical certificate or general secondary education, or equivalent relevant experience in automation, industrial controls, or a related field. Proven experience in building automation and control systems, particularly in comfort-related applications such as Building Management Systems (BMS), energy efficiency, and automated lighting, is essential. Experience with commissioning automated systems and conducting functional tests is also required. Proficiency in PLC programming, industrial communications, and middleware, along with familiarity with electrical diagrams, is necessary. Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) tools is considered an advantage.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a technical certificate or general secondary education in a relevant field, such as automation or industrial controls. Candidates with equivalent relevant experience may also be considered. A strong foundation in technical principles related to automation systems is crucial for success in this role.

Experience:
The position requires proven experience in building automation and control systems, particularly those related to comfort and energy efficiency. Candidates should have experience with commissioning automated systems and conducting functional tests, as well as proficiency in PLC programming and industrial communications. Familiarity with electrical diagrams and experience in the installation and maintenance of industrial data-acquisition and control systems are also important.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication within the diverse workforce at CERN.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of applying for an indefinite position under certain conditions. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the role may involve work in radiation areas, interventions in underground installations, and work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays as required.
