Job Overview: The Director of the Polio Program Strategy Team (PST) is responsible for executing the overall Polio strategy and ensuring impact delivery. This role involves managing the program portfolio with a focus on strategic alignment with the foundation's leadership, including the President of Global Development and the CEO. The Director will oversee the foundation's relationship with the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) and ensure that the Polio strategy maintains the confidence of the foundation's leadership. The position requires a strong emphasis on program management, tracking progress through milestone-based approaches, and adapting strategies as necessary to meet evolving challenges in polio eradication efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Director will lead the Polio program, which includes developing and executing strategies, managing budgets, staffing, and guiding the team. Responsibilities include building a high-performing team, mentoring high performers, and fostering a culture of inclusion and collaboration. The Director will oversee partnerships with GPEI and other key external partners, cultivate relationships with internal stakeholders, and understand disease burden trends to evolve research and development strategies. The role also involves prioritizing innovative delivery approaches to increase vaccine coverage, ensuring quality technical execution of programs, and maintaining strong relationships with global partners and stakeholders. The Director will publicly represent the foundation's Polio program on the global stage.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate strong managerial acumen with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams and managing complex collaborative networks. Experience in grant management and familiarity with designing and managing complex grants in partnership with industry and academia is essential. The ideal candidate should be a global leader with the ability to connect with the Polio community and engage with governments to strengthen routine immunization efforts. Strategic thinking skills are crucial for defining the evolving goals of the Polio strategy and providing clear direction based on analytical rigor.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically including advanced degrees in public health, international development, or related fields. Candidates should have a strong understanding of global health issues, particularly in relation to polio eradication and immunization strategies.
Experience: Candidates should possess extensive experience in managing large-scale public health programs, particularly in the context of polio eradication. Experience within the UN system and familiarity with leveraging partnerships for maximum impact is highly desirable. The role requires a leader who can navigate complex environments and drive innovative initiatives.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in additional languages relevant to the global health community would be advantageous.
Additional Notes: The salary range for this role is between $367,800 to $570,200 USD, with higher ranges for positions based in Seattle and Washington D.C. New hire salaries typically fall between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range, depending on the candidate's skills and experience.
