Job Overview:
The Environment Associate will play a crucial role in integrating social development dimensions into AIIB's operational work. This position is vital for addressing environmental aspects of various policies, programs, and projects, ensuring that AIIB's investments are sustainable and compliant with its Environmental and Social Policy (ESP). The associate will engage in activities such as evaluating environmental feasibility, conducting environmental assessments, and managing environmental risks associated with investment projects. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure that environmental considerations are effectively incorporated into project planning and implementation, thereby contributing to the development of sustainable infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Environment Associate will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Supporting the formulation and implementation of environmental strategies and policies for AIIB.
  • Participating in the identification, appraisal, design, and implementation of investment programs and projects, focusing on environmental feasibility.
  • Preparing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for projects in sectors such as water, energy, and transport.
  • Managing environmental risks and impacts by conducting reviews and compliance studies, including field-based assessments.
  • Monitoring environmental and social aspects in ongoing projects and developing action plans to address compliance issues.
  • Coordinating the disclosure and consultation processes for environmental assessments at the project level.
  • Contributing to AIIB's approach to climate change, biodiversity, and ecosystem services.
  • Supporting the development of training programs on environmental safeguard systems for staff and clients.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in environmental or natural sciences, engineering, planning, social sciences, community development, law, or a related field. A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in environmental and social planning and management is required. Experience should include working with multilateral development banks, bilateral donors, or private sector organizations. Proven expertise in managing environmental and social aspects of infrastructure projects, including the preparation of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) is essential. Candidates should demonstrate effective project development and supervision skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in relevant fields such as environmental science, engineering, planning, social science, or law is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of environmental and social governance in infrastructure projects.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience. This experience should ideally be in environmental and social planning and management, particularly in the context of infrastructure projects. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with multilateral development banks or similar organizations, demonstrating their ability to navigate the complexities of environmental compliance and project management.

Languages:
