Job Overview:
The Program Associate for Sustainable Cities and Transport at WRI India will play a crucial role in evaluating and implementing initiatives aimed at improving mobility, livelihood, industrialization, and agricultural efficiencies in Madhepura, Bihar. This position involves establishing strong relationships with local government and non-government stakeholders, conducting extensive research on the local landscape, and contributing to the development of reports and presentations. The associate will be integral in supporting WRI India's mission to transform urban environments into equitable and low-carbon spaces, thereby positively impacting the lives of citizens. The role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with diverse change agents and contribute to significant urban initiatives that align with WRI India's goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Establish and lead engagement with the district administration, municipal council, transport department, and other government actors in Madhepura, including occasional interactions with state-level stakeholders.
• Build relationships with local non-government stakeholders such as union bodies, educational institutions, citizen groups, and industrial bodies.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for WRI India and its partners in the district.
• Conduct extensive research on the mobility and livelihood landscape in Madhepura, documenting existing and emerging policy actions and developments.
• Develop presentations and reports, contributing to writing pieces and peer-reviewed articles alongside senior colleagues.
• Support the organization of convenings and workshops with multiple stakeholders, enhancing outreach and communication of WRI India's programs.

Required Qualifications:

• A postgraduate degree in planning, economics, transport, urban planning, or related fields.
• 2 to 4 years of full-time experience in sustainable development, livelihoods, research, or related areas, with a strong emphasis on building relationships with government stakeholders.
• Proven experience in coordinating and executing projects, with an on-ground presence being essential.
• Strong primary and secondary research skills.
• Proficiency in spatial software such as Q-GIS and Arc GIS, along with analytical skills in Excel. Familiarity with programming languages like Python and R is advantageous.
• A self-starter attitude, capable of working independently and managing ambiguity while adhering to deadlines.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a postgraduate degree in relevant fields such as planning, economics, transport, or urban planning. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of sustainable urban development and transport systems.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have between 2 to 4 years of full-time experience in areas related to sustainable development, livelihoods, and research. Experience in engaging with government stakeholders and executing projects on the ground is crucial for success in this role.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written Hindi and English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional regional languages will be considered an advantage, enhancing communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time position with a limited term of 1 year, which may be extendable based on performance and organizational needs. The salary range for this position is between INR 9,50,000 to INR 12,50,000 CTC, commensurate with experience and skills.
