Job Overview: The position of Consultant for the Shoku-iku Nutrition Education Intervention involves designing and implementing a nutrition education program based on Japan's successful school lunch system. The consultant will work closely with Japanese experts and local stakeholders to develop a training program for teachers in Cote d’Ivoire, focusing on nutrition education and school lunch practices. The role requires a deep understanding of both Japanese and Cote d’Ivoire's educational and nutritional contexts, as well as the ability to create effective training materials and methodologies. The consultant will also be responsible for assessing the impact of the intervention and ensuring that the training aligns with local needs and challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design the Shoku-iku nutrition education intervention tailored to the needs of Cote d’Ivoire.
Develop a comprehensive training program for teachers in Niigata, Japan, focusing on the principles and practices of Japan's school lunch system.
Teach the trainees about the background, theory, and practical applications of school lunch and nutrition education in Japan.
Facilitate visits to elementary schools in Niigata to observe and learn from actual school lunch practices.
Support the development of monitoring and evaluation tools to assess the impact of the intervention.
Collaborate with local stakeholders to ensure the program meets the specific needs of Cote d’Ivoire.
Provide ongoing support and guidance to the trained specialists once they return to Cote d’Ivoire to implement the program.
Conduct regular reporting and monitoring of the intervention's progress and outcomes.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in conducting research related to school lunch systems in Japan.
Experience in conducting school lunch research in developing countries outside of Japan.
Current involvement in teaching nutrition education to elementary school students in Japan.
Engagement in university-level training and education on subjects related to nutrition, education, and health sciences.
Ability to travel to Cote d’Ivoire to assess local needs and challenges in school lunch and nutrition education.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: A master's degree or higher in nutrition, education, public health, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in school nutrition programs or educational methodologies would be advantageous.
Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant experience in nutrition education, school lunch systems, or related fields is required. Experience working in international development or with NGOs focused on education and nutrition is preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Japanese and/or French is preferred, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the training experience for Cote d’Ivoire participants.

This is a full-time position, and the consultant may be required to travel to Cote d’Ivoire as part of their responsibilities. Compensation and benefits will be discussed during the interview process.
