The upcoming 7th Country Programme (2024-2028) will continue to address these critical areas, enhancing communication strategies to promote gender equality and reproductive health.
Job Overview: The Communications Officer for Gender and GBV will play a crucial role in advancing UNFPA's mission by developing communication materials that align with UNFPA and UN guidelines on gender-based violence (GBV). This position will involve creating content for various platforms, including social media, and supporting outreach activities that enhance visibility and engagement with donors and stakeholders. The officer will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating communication efforts to ensure effectiveness and adherence to ethical standards. The role requires collaboration with the GBV team and other partners to craft compelling narratives that highlight the importance of addressing GBV and promoting gender equality. The officer will also engage in strategic communication efforts to influence public discourse and mobilize action against GBV, ensuring that key messages resonate with diverse audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Graphic Design & Content Creation: Create visually appealing graphic materials such as leaflets, brochures, and social media content for the GBV team.
Support on GBV Outreach Activities: Assist in organizing outreach events and campaigns, documenting success stories and human-interest narratives through photography and interviews.
Social Media Engagement & Content Development: Collaborate with the GBV team to produce engaging content for social media platforms, ensuring active engagement and donor visibility.
Social Media Strategy & Planning: Develop a weekly social media plan focused on GBV, including impactful messaging and multimedia content.
Social Media Management & Reporting: Maintain an updated social media calendar and provide monthly analytics to track performance.
UNFPA Event Support: Assist in organizing events related to sexual and reproductive health and rights, providing support in content creation for online and offline campaigns.
Communications Team Support: Offer assistance to the broader communications team for various activities and outreach campaigns as needed.
Volunteerism Engagement: Strengthen understanding of volunteerism, participate in UNV activities, and promote local volunteerism initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong graphic design skills, proficiency in social media management, and excellent communication abilities. They should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in their work approach, with a commitment to ethical standards in communications. The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment is essential. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of gender issues and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: A degree in communications, public relations, social sciences, or a related field is required. Additional training or certifications in graphic design or social media management would be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of experience in communications, preferably within the context of gender issues or development work. Experience in graphic design and social media strategy is highly desirable, along with a proven track record of producing engaging content for various audiences.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Khmer is an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not required.
Additional Notes: This position is a National UN Volunteer role based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The contract duration is typically for a year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The role is full-time, and the volunteer will receive a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of USD 731.41, along with other benefits such as health insurance and annual leave. The position requires a commitment to UNFPA's mission and values, particularly in promoting gender equality and addressing GBV.
