Job Posting Organization: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a global leader in the fight against illicit drugs and international crime. Established in 1997, UNODC operates in over 150 countries and has a mission to assist Member States in their struggle against illicit drugs, crime, and terrorism. The organization aims to promote justice and the rule of law, enhance the capacity of countries to combat corruption, and support the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). UNODC is committed to fostering international cooperation and providing technical assistance to countries to strengthen their legal and policy frameworks.
Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Anti-Corruption Programme at UNODC in Suva, Fiji, is designed for individuals who are passionate about combating corruption and contributing to sustainable development. The intern will work closely with the Regional advisor" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Anti-Corruption Advisor and will be involved in various projects aimed at enhancing anti-corruption efforts in the Pacific region. The internship will provide the intern with the opportunity to gain practical experience in research, project development, and implementation of technical assistance activities. The intern will be expected to conduct research, develop methodologies, and analyze findings related to anti-corruption initiatives, thereby contributing to the overall mission of UNODC in promoting integrity and accountability.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: conducting research on anti-corruption topics, developing a methodology for specific projects, performing qualitative and quantitative research such as focus group discussions, interviews, and surveys, drafting reports based on research findings, compiling and editing information for monthly news bulletins, assisting in program implementation and ad hoc assignments, supporting program staff in preparing reports for donors, organizing technical assistance activities including conferences and seminars, and contributing to the development of communication products such as web stories and program briefs. The intern will be expected to work full-time, five days a week, and may have the opportunity for a remote start.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, applicants should demonstrate strong analytical thinking, communication, and research skills, possess a keen interest in anti-corruption and related issues, and have good IT competence with proficiency in standard office software and online communication tools. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program, or have recently completed such programs. The field of study should be closely related to the internship's focus on anti-corruption, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, peace, justice, or development. Applicants are required to provide proof of their academic status and relevance of their studies to UNODC’s work.
Experience: While professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the objectives of the UNODC Anti-Corruption Programme. The internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to the organization's mission, making it suitable for students or recent graduates.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and interns are expected to cover their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. The internship duration is three months, starting on June 1, 2025, with a possibility of a remote start.
