Job Overview: The Programme Analyst for Youth Empowerment & Engagement plays a crucial role in analyzing and assessing political, social, and economic trends that impact UNFPA's programs in Ghana. This position involves guiding and facilitating the delivery of UNFPA initiatives, including project formulation and evaluation, as well as joint programming initiatives that align with national development frameworks. The analyst will work closely with the UNFPA Programme Specialist and will be responsible for supporting the effective management of UNFPA activities related to youth empowerment and engagement. This includes providing technical advice, managing policy and advocacy work, and ensuring that programming is responsive to the needs of vulnerable populations, including women and young people. The role requires a commitment to UNFPA's mission and values, as well as a focus on achieving high-impact results in the areas of sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and youth development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Analyst will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
Managing and overseeing the implementation of UNFPA's youth empowerment and engagement programs in accordance with the Country Programme Document (CPD) 2023-202
Providing technical support and guidance to ensure high-quality programming that addresses the needs of vulnerable populations.
Conducting analyses of political, social, and economic trends to inform program development and implementation.
Facilitating linkages between youth empowerment initiatives and other relevant programs, such as sexual and reproductive health and gender equality.
Monitoring and evaluating program results, ensuring adherence to UNFPA's systems and procedures.
Engaging in resource mobilization efforts to secure funding and support for youth programs.
Collaborating with national governments, partners, and stakeholders to build strategic alliances and enhance program effectiveness.
Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor in consultation with management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree in health, population, demography, or a related social science discipline. Additionally, they should have a strong understanding of development issues, particularly in the context of youth empowerment and engagement. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to UNFPA's mission and values, including integrity, cultural diversity, and a willingness to embrace change. Candidates should also exhibit strong advocacy skills and the ability to leverage resources effectively to achieve program goals.
Educational Background: An advanced degree in health, population, demography, or other related social science disciplines is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of population dynamics and the social factors that influence youth empowerment and engagement.
Experience: Candidates should have at least two years of professional experience in development and population activities, with a focus on program/project management. Experience in managing large multi-sector projects, designing and appraising proposals, and liaising with relevant project partners is essential. Practical experience in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects is also required, and field experience is considered an asset. Prior experience within the UN system is advantageous, as is familiarity with Microsoft Office software, cloud applications, and web-based ERP management systems.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official UN languages, particularly French, is desirable and can enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
