The organization focuses on various aspects of migration, including humanitarian assistance, development, and the protection of migrants' rights. In Ghana, IOM collaborates with the government and other stakeholders to address issues related to migration, including human trafficking, particularly in the context of sports and youth.

Job Overview:
The Communication Strategy Consultant will play a crucial role in addressing the issue of human trafficking in sports among youth in Ghana. This position involves developing a comprehensive communication strategy aimed at raising awareness about the risks associated with sports trafficking and promoting regular pathways for youth in sports. The consultant will work closely with the Technical Working Group (TWG) on sports and trafficking, conducting consultations with various stakeholders, including youth groups, civil society, and sports clubs. The consultant will also be responsible for creating an information booklet and a draft communication strategy that targets youth and grassroots organizations, ensuring that the content is context-specific and effectively communicates the dangers of sports trafficking.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leverage the sub-thematic group for Protection and Human Rights under the National Coordination Mechanism as a Technical Working Group (TWG) to support the elaboration of the communication strategy and information booklet.
  • Conduct consultations with relevant stakeholders, including the private sector, youth groups, academia, civil society, sports clubs, and survivors of human trafficking in sports.
  • Submit an inception report to the TWG outlining the elaboration of the communication strategy and information booklet for validation.
  • Develop a context-specific communication strategy based on findings from the baseline assessment on sports trafficking.
  • Create a draft communication strategy targeting youth and grassroots organization stakeholders for review by the TWG.
  • Design a visual information booklet to be disseminated at national sports events to raise awareness on sports-related human trafficking.
  • Participate in a one-day stakeholder workshop to validate the strategy and information booklet.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in communications studies, social sciences, human rights, sports management, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, particularly in areas related to human trafficking, migration, or youth-focused sports initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate research findings into effective communication tools and campaigns.
  • Strong skills in strategic messaging, audience segmentation, and multi-platform content development.
  • Ability to integrate Communication for Development (C4D) methodologies into the content production process, with guidance from IOM.
  • Experience in organizing and leading workshops on key message and content development with community stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Ghana’s sports and trafficking landscape is an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in communications studies, social sciences, human rights, sports management, or related fields. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively address the complex issues surrounding human trafficking in sports.

Experience:
The position requires proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, particularly in areas related to human trafficking, migration, or youth-focused sports initiatives. Candidates should have a track record of successfully translating research findings into effective communication tools and campaigns, demonstrating their ability to engage with diverse audiences and stakeholders.

Languages:
While the job description does not specify mandatory languages, proficiency in English is essential for effective communication. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Ghana may be considered an asset, as it can enhance engagement with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is likely to be project-based, with a focus on developing a communication strategy and information booklet within a specified timeframe. The consultant may work on a full-time or part-time basis, depending on the project requirements. Compensation and benefits will be discussed during the hiring process, and the role may involve collaboration with international and national stakeholders.
