Job Overview: The Advocacy and Communication Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting Ghana's advocacy priorities, particularly in adolescent programming and community health. This position is vital for enhancing UNICEF's influence in Western and Central Africa, especially in the context of increasing competition in the development sector. The consultant will work closely with various teams to ensure effective policy advocacy and communication strategies that uplift disadvantaged children and families. The role involves developing communication products, supporting visibility for key events, and ensuring donor visibility in all communications activities. The consultant will also be responsible for creating advocacy and communication plans for two significant projects: the Power Her Potential Program (PHP) and the Community Health Workforce Development Program (CHWDP).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support documentation for visibility of PHP and CHWDP project activities and results for advocacy, including developing communication products such as documentaries, advocacy videos, and social media posts.
Review and lead the implementation of advocacy and communication plans for both projects, ensuring effective materials are developed.
Coordinate and produce photo shoots and video products, ensuring high-quality content for both programs.
Undertake language-editing and quality assurance for technical reports and policy briefs.
Execute visibility for key events and conduct mid-term reviews of advocacy and communication plans.
Create sustained digital outreach content and report on engagement metrics.
Provide inputs for donor reports, ensuring adherence to visibility guidelines.
Submit a comprehensive final report and conduct knowledge transfer sessions with internal staff.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, International Relations, International Development, or a related field. A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in advocacy, campaigning, and communications focused on young people is required. Candidates should demonstrate experience in developing and implementing youth engagement strategies, managing projects, and designing content for youth audiences. Knowledge of children’s rights, public policy, and international development is essential, along with experience in advocacy organizations and training facilitation.
Educational Background: A Master’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, International Relations, International Development, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial as it provides the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to effectively advocate for children's rights and communicate complex issues to diverse audiences.
Experience: The position requires at least five years of relevant professional work experience in advocacy and communications, particularly focused on young people. Candidates should have a proven track record of supporting the development and implementation of youth engagement strategies, managing projects to completion, and designing content tailored for youth audiences. Experience in both developing and emergency environments is considered an asset, as is familiarity with the U-Report platform.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the local context or the populations served by UNICEF in Ghana.
