Additionally, DRC contributes to the evidence base and coordination structures in the country through its Evidence Generation and Referral Information Management (RIMs) teams.
Job Overview: The overall purpose of the Protection Assistant role is to conduct protection monitoring and evidence generation activities within communities. This includes both quantitative and qualitative data collection, as well as following up with Community Mobilizers in the field. The role is crucial for delivering protection information dissemination among communities and providing awareness-raising and risk mitigation sessions on protection-related topics. The Protection Assistant will play a vital role in linking vulnerable communities to relevant services through referrals and the provision of Emergency Cash Assistance for individuals at immediate risk. The position requires a proactive approach to engage with communities, collect data, and ensure that protection needs are addressed effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Assistant will be responsible for a variety of duties, including conducting protection monitoring activities within communities in accordance with existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and sampling strategies. This involves collecting data on both individual and community levels through surveys, Key Informant Interviews, and Focus Group Discussions. The role also includes disseminating protection information, providing awareness-raising sessions on key protection issues based on identified needs, and ensuring safe identification and referral of persons with protection or other needs to appropriate services. Regular recording, tracking, and follow-up on referrals using the Referral Information Management System (RIMS) is essential, as is maintaining a service mapping and referral pathway at the community level. The Protection Assistant will maintain good relations with communities and key stakeholders, supervise Community Mobilizers, provide regular protection situation updates, and support the Protection Team Leader with reporting processes and gap assessments. Additionally, the role involves supporting the implementation of monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of activities and projects, ensuring proper documentation of data collected during protection activities, and utilizing information management tools for timely and accurate data entry.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field. A minimum of one year of experience in protection monitoring, community-based protection, community engagement, outreach, awareness raising, and providing cash for protection is essential. Candidates should possess an excellent understanding of protection and do no harm principles, as well as a contextual understanding of the protection environment in the area of implementation. Familiarity with data collection methods and experience working with diverse communities in various settings are also required. Strong facilitation and sensitization skills, excellent communication and psychosocial first aid skills, and a commitment to principles of confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, safety, and inclusion are crucial for success in this role.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the Protection Assistant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively engage with vulnerable communities and address their protection needs.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of one year of relevant experience in protection monitoring and community-based protection. This experience should include community engagement, outreach, awareness raising, and providing cash for protection, as well as safe identification and referrals. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the protection environment and the challenges faced by vulnerable communities in Lebanon.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with the communities served. Additionally, the ability to communicate and write clearly in English is desirable, as it will facilitate reporting and collaboration with international stakeholders.
