Job Overview:
The Senior Project Manager is tasked with overseeing the daily operations of projects, ensuring that outputs are delivered within the specified tolerances of time, cost, quality, scope, risk, and benefits. This role involves acting on behalf of the Project Board to manage ongoing projects during the implementation stage. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for creating the Implementation Plan and ensuring that project outputs align with the business cases of both UNOPS and its partners. Success in this role is measured against defined success criteria, and the Senior Project Manager has the authority to assign work packages to Team Managers and approve their deliverables. The position requires a proactive approach to managing project delivery, performance, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring that all aspects of the project are executed effectively and efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Project Manager's duties include developing and updating implementation plans, managing project progress, ensuring quality compliance, liaising with external suppliers, and leading contract management duties. The role also involves monitoring project status, preparing regular reports, and maintaining stakeholder engagement. The Senior Project Manager must ensure that sustainability dimensions are embedded in the project lifecycle, manage budgets and cash flow, and support project audit activities. Additionally, the position requires the development of stakeholder profiles, coordination of project communications, and fostering a culture of respect and accountability within the project team. The Senior Project Manager is expected to lead and motivate the project management team, ensuring that performance reviews are conducted fairly and that team members are trained and supported in their roles.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an Advanced University Degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant disciplines, with a preference for degrees in Engineering or similar fields. A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, combined with two additional years of relevant work experience, may be considered in lieu of the Advanced University Degree. A relevant combination of academic credentials and industry certifications may also be accepted. Certification in PRINCE2 Practitioner is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate strong project management skills and a thorough understanding of project management methodologies and practices.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include an Advanced University Degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields. A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, along with additional relevant work experience, may be accepted as an alternative. Candidates with a combination of academic credentials and industry certifications are also encouraged to apply. The role may benefit from certifications such as PRINCE2 Practitioner, which is viewed favorably.

Experience:
A minimum of 7 years of working experience in managing infrastructure projects is mandatory, with experience in project or program management being essential. Candidates with experience in engineering and construction contract management, as well as those who have worked on projects funded by multilateral development banks, will have an advantage. Experience in hardship duty stations or conflict zones is also beneficial, as is prior experience working with UNOPS.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders and partners.

Additional Notes:
The contract type for this position is International ICA, at the IICA-3 level, with an ongoing open-ended duration subject to organizational requirements, availability of funds, and satisfactory performance.
