Job Overview:
The Communications Senior Officer – Digital and Content will play a crucial role in enhancing the digital communication platforms and content for the UN Development Coordination Office (DCO). This position is integral to strengthening DCO's digital presence and engagement, ensuring that digital tools are effectively integrated to promote transparency and accountability across UN Country Teams (UNCTs). The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining and improving DCO-backed digital platforms, contributing to content creation, and supporting performance tracking and evaluation. This role requires collaboration with external stakeholders and UNCTs to optimize digital strategies and enhance audience engagement through innovative technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Maintenance and Improvement of Digital Platforms: Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure DCO-backed Drupal websites are integrated with proprietary data systems, manage content updates, and draft governance documents related to SEO and accessibility.
  • Project Management and Content Creation: Serve as the technical focal point for digital design projects, produce multimedia content, and develop website information architecture.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Regularly assess the performance of digital platforms using KPIs and analytics, and propose adjustments to content strategies based on current events and audience needs.
  • Capacity Building: Support UN partners in utilizing digital tools effectively and contribute to knowledge sharing and best practices.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, information technology, or a related field with two years of relevant experience, or a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) with four years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes public information, journalism, marketing" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">digital marketing, or related areas. Candidates should have experience creating multimedia content for websites and social media, and familiarity with content management systems like Drupal, Joomla, or WordPress is essential. Experience with data visualization tools and project management concepts is desirable.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, information technology, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) with additional years of relevant experience may be considered. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of the position, emphasizing skills in digital communication and technology.

Experience:
Candidates should have relevant experience in public information, journalism, or digital marketing, with a strong emphasis on creating content for digital platforms. Experience with Drupal or similar content management systems is required, along with a background in developing data visualizations and familiarity with project management methodologies. Experience within the UN system or similar international organizations is preferred but not mandatory.

Languages:
Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking) is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered under an Individual Contractor Agreement (ICA) with a contract level of either International Individual Contractor Agreement (IICA-1) or Local Individual Contractor Agreement (LICA-9). The contract duration is ongoing, subject to performance and funding availability. Candidates must be available during New York business hours for collaboration and meetings.
