Job Overview: This internship position is designed for individuals interested in gaining practical experience in statistical analysis related to poverty reduction, inequality, and social protection. Interns will work under the supervision of experienced staff members in the Sustainable Socioeconomic Transformation Section, which focuses on addressing critical issues such as poverty, social development financing, and social protection. The internship is expected to last between 2 to 6 months, depending on departmental needs, and is a full-time, unpaid position requiring a commitment of 37.5 hours per week. Interns will engage in a variety of tasks that will enhance their analytical and research skills, while also contributing to the UN's mission of promoting social equity and inclusion.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will undertake a range of responsibilities, including conducting desk research and data processing, performing statistical analysis using software such as R and Excel, and focusing on topics related to poverty reduction and social protection. They will also support the development of reports, summaries, and transcripts, assist in creating content for social media, and help organize workshops, conferences, and expert group meetings. Additionally, interns may be assigned other duties as directed by their supervisor, which will vary based on their background and the specific needs of the office.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, and provide examples of their experience in drafting news articles or social media posts, as well as designing surveys and polls.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a relevant educational background, either in a graduate program or a final year of undergraduate studies, with a focus on fields related to social sciences, economics, statistics, or other relevant disciplines. This educational foundation will support their ability to engage with the internship's focus areas effectively.
Experience: While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. This could include research projects, academic papers, or relevant volunteer work that demonstrates their analytical and research capabilities.
