Job Overview:
The Desktop Publishing Assistant plays a crucial role in the production and delivery of information communications products and services. This position requires specialized assistance to officers in creating and updating various information materials, including web pages, brochures, and social media accounts. The assistant will be responsible for uploading publications to the digital repository and ensuring that all metadata and visualizations are accurate. The role also involves assisting and substituting for more senior Desktop Publishing Assistants when necessary, as well as identifying and retrieving documents from the United Nations Official Documents System (ODS). The assistant will perform daily maintenance of network drives and may be required to rotate in shifts, including weekend on-call duties. Availability for overtime may also be expected depending on service needs. Additionally, the assistant will assist in collecting and analyzing data, preparing presentations and reports for information sharing, and responding to queries related to knowledge management, planning, and decision-making. The position requires a proactive approach to updating information materials and performing other related tasks as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Desktop Publishing Assistant will be responsible for a variety of duties, including: providing specialized assistance to officers in the production and delivery of information communications products; assisting with visualizations and updating information materials such as web pages and brochures; uploading publications to the digital repository and ECLAC publications website with correct metadata; identifying and retrieving documents from the United Nations Official Documents System (ODS); performing daily maintenance of network drives; rotating in shifts and being available for weekend on-call duties; assisting with data collection and analysis; preparing data presentations and reports; and performing other related work as required. The assistant must demonstrate professionalism, effective communication, and technological awareness in all tasks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. For positions in the General Service category, it is essential to clearly indicate relevant information confirming completion of high school in the Applicant Profile. Additionally, candidates should have at least five years of progressively responsible experience in digital publishing technologies, including draft typing, copy editing, proof-reading, and typographical layout. This experience requirement is reduced to three years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in data analytics or related areas is desirable, and candidates should demonstrate proficiency in desktop publishing and knowledge of UN structure and rules.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Candidates must clearly indicate their educational background in their Applicant Profile, confirming the completion of high school. There are no specific job-specific qualifications listed beyond the educational requirement.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in digital publishing technologies, which includes skills in draft typing, copy editing, proof-reading, and typographical layout. For those who possess a first-level university degree or higher, the minimum years of relevant experience required is reduced to three years. Additionally, having at least one year of experience in data analytics or a related area is considered desirable for this position.

Languages:
The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, while Spanish is a working language of ECLAC. For this position, candidates must have intermediate proficiency in English and fluency in Spanish, with a strong command of spelling and grammar. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered an advantage.
