Job Overview:
The Civil Team Assistant / Manitou Machine Operator and Light Vehicle Driver position is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of machinery and vehicles within the UNECA compound. The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Manitou MT-X 1440 telehandler, including planning, maintenance, servicing, and transportation requirements. This role requires a proactive approach to safety and operational standards, ensuring that all machinery is maintained to a high standard and that driving assignments are executed safely and punctually. The position also involves driving light vehicles and trucks as needed, making it essential for the candidate to possess appropriate licenses and a commitment to health and safety practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will perform a variety of duties under the supervision of the civil works Supervisor, including:

• Operating the Manitou MT-X 1440 SLT and similar machinery safely and professionally.
• Maintaining best practices while adhering to manufacturer guidelines and general trade practices.
• Executing scheduled maintenance and keeping track of the operational condition of machinery.
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements during operation and parking of machinery.
• Maintaining cleanliness and readiness of the Manitou for operation, including fuel and consumables management.
• Adhering to road safety regulations when operating machinery outside the UNECA compound.
• Driving light vehicles or trucks for transporting personnel and goods as required.
• Performing day-to-day maintenance checks on assigned vehicles and arranging for repairs as necessary.
• Logging fuel consumption and maintenance records. 1
• Taking appropriate actions in case of accidents and demonstrating good judgment in assignments. 1
• Working collaboratively as a proactive team player and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess proven knowledge and experience in operating telehandlers, particularly the Manitou MT-X 1440 or similar machinery. A good understanding of regular and preventative maintenance for such equipment is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience as a driver of light vehicles, including vans, with a safe driving record. Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are required, along with a commitment to health and safety practices. The ability to handle information and follow instructions accurately is also necessary, as is the capacity to remain calm under pressure.

Educational Background:
A high school completion is required for this position. Specialized training or certification in Manitou machine operation and light vehicle driving is highly desirable, as it demonstrates the candidate's capability to perform the required tasks effectively.

Experience:
Candidates should have proven experience in operating telehandlers, particularly the Manitou MT-X 1440, and handling various accessories associated with telehandler operations. Experience in a general construction environment is preferred, as it provides relevant context for the role. Additionally, candidates should have a safe driving record and experience driving light vehicles.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is critical for safety and operational efficiency. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
