Job Overview: The Senior AgricultureEconomist position at the World Bank is a critical role aimed at enhancing the organization's efforts in promoting climate mitigation and adaptation, as well as environmental sustainability within agriculture and food investments. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading analytical and advisory products related to climate, agriculture, and nature, and will play a key role in advancing the Department's thought leadership on these issues. Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Agriculture Economist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: leading or contributing to key analytical and advisory products related to climate, agriculture, and nature; playing a leading role in advancing the Department's thought leadership on climate and nature economics; serving as a core team member on economic analysis and modeling for country-level Food System Climate Action Plans (FS-CAPs); engaging with macroeconomists and climate specialists across the World Bank Group; promoting the climate change agenda in agriculture and food operations; ensuring consistent global approaches and best practices; providing global technical leadership on the economics of climate and nature; organizing events for knowledge sharing; and representing the World Bank at various global, regional, and country events. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for collaboration and innovation in addressing climate-related challenges in agriculture.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or a minimum of a Master’s degree in Agricultural and Resource Economics, Environmental Economics, Applied Economics, or a related field. Additionally, at least eight years of relevant experience post-Master’s degree is required, particularly in areas related to climate change, environmental sustainability, and agricultural development. Strong technical skills and deep knowledge of climate change mitigation, adaptation, sustainable natural resource management, and agricultural pollution control are essential. Familiarity with international climate and environment conventions is also important. The candidate should demonstrate strong analytical skills and a proven track record of contributing to rigorous analytical work and knowledge dissemination in relevant areas.
