Established in 1946, UNICEF has been operational for over 70 years and currently works in 190 countries and territories. The organization employs more than 12,000 staff members across 145 countries, focusing on various aspects of child welfare, including health, education, and protection from violence and exploitation. UNICEF is primarily funded through voluntary contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations, and governments, making it the world's largest provider of vaccines for developing countries. Its mission is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to survive, thrive, and fulfill their potential, regardless of their circumstances.

Job Overview:
The position involves engaging individual consultants as graphic designers to support UNICEF's Child Protection and Development Unit (CPD). The consultants will be responsible for creating high-quality, data-driven products and publications that communicate critical information regarding child protection, early childhood development, and related themes. The role requires a strong understanding of design principles, particularly in the context of data visualization, to produce visually appealing and accurate representations of complex data. The consultants will work remotely and will be expected to conceptualize, design, and layout various materials, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's branding and design standards. This position is crucial for enhancing UNICEF's communication efforts and ensuring that data-driven insights are effectively disseminated to various stakeholders, including policymakers, donors, and the public.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected consultants will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: conceptualizing and designing data-driven thematic publications, brochures, technical documents, funding proposals, and digital products. They will be responsible for proposing color palettes and photo selections that align with UNICEF's guidelines, designing layouts based on provided content, and producing original graphics. The consultants must ensure that all designs adhere to UNICEF's branding standards and are visually compelling. They will also be required to implement feedback from UNICEF staff, deliver final products in specified formats (PDFs, PPTs, and native InDesign files), and manage tight deadlines effectively. Additionally, the consultants will need to use their own equipment and software for the tasks, and all produced materials will remain the property of UNICEF.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree (Bachelor's) or equivalent in graphic design, art, communications, or a relevant social science field. A minimum of eight years of professional experience in graphic design is required, with substantial experience in publication design/layout and data visualization. High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) is essential. Proven experience in designing infographics, maps, and data-driven products is necessary, and familiarity with UNICEF's design standards is an asset. The ability to work independently, respond quickly to needs, and meet deadlines is crucial for success in this role.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes a first-level university degree (Bachelor's) in graphic design, art, communications, or a relevant social science field. This educational background is essential to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for effective graphic design and communication within the context of UNICEF's work.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of eight years of professional work experience in graphic design. This experience should include substantial work in publication design/layout and data visualization, demonstrating a strong portfolio of relevant work. Previous experience with UNICEF or similar organizations is highly desirable, as it indicates familiarity with the specific design standards and branding guidelines that UNICEF adheres to.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication and collaboration with UNICEF staff and stakeholders. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if it aligns with UNICEF's global operations and target audiences.

Additional Notes:
The Long-Term Agreement (LTA) will be established for a duration of two years, with the possibility of extension for an additional year, subject to satisfactory performance and ongoing need for services. The consultants will work on a remote basis and must provide their own equipment and software. Payment will be made upon completion of deliverables, and all materials produced will be the property of UNICEF. The selection process will involve a technical evaluation based on qualifications, work samples, and financial proposals, with a focus on diversity and inclusion in the hiring process. UNICEF encourages applications from women, trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse candidates, as well as individuals with disabilities.
