Job Overview: The Communication Intern position at the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Kuwait is designed for individuals seeking to gain practical experience in public information and strategic communication within a multilateral context. The intern will work under the supervision of the Public Information Officer (PIO) and will be involved in a variety of tasks that support the office's communication strategy. The intern will be expected to assist in content development, digital engagement, media outreach, and reporting, thereby playing a crucial role in enhancing the UN's communication efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: supporting the implementation of the office’s communication and visibility strategy; assisting in content creation and media outreach for UN initiatives and campaigns; enhancing the UN’s digital presence through effective social media support; supporting event communication and documentation; drafting and editing press releases, media advisories, newsletters, feature stories, and web articles; researching and preparing background information, talking points, and communication briefs; contributing to the planning and execution of digital campaigns; supporting photo and video documentation of UN events; maintaining a media contact database; assisting in coordinating media engagements and interviews; running engagement campaigns; monitoring trending topics; helping develop platform-specific content strategies; supporting the planning and execution of content calendars; ensuring all content aligns with UN branding; identifying and engaging with local influencers; assisting in organizing communication events; monitoring and reporting on media coverage of UN activities; and performing any other related duties as assigned by the PIO.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet several criteria: they must be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level), or have graduated with a university degree. Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. No prior working experience is required to apply for this internship.
