Job Overview:
The Communication Intern position at the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Kuwait is designed for individuals who are eager to gain hands-on experience in public information and strategic communication within a multilateral context. The intern will work closely with the Public Information Officer (PIO) to support various communication initiatives, including content development, media outreach, and digital engagement. Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a wide range of tasks that support the communication and visibility strategy of the UN office. Key responsibilities include: - Supporting the implementation of the office’s communication strategy. - Assisting in content creation and media outreach for UN initiatives and campaigns. - Enhancing the UN’s digital presence through social media support. - Supporting event communication and documentation. - Drafting and editing press releases, media advisories, newsletters, feature stories, and web articles. - Researching and preparing background information, talking points, and communication briefs. - Contributing to the planning and execution of digital campaigns, especially around international observances. - Supporting photo and video documentation of UN events. - Maintaining a media contact database and assisting in media monitoring. - Coordinating media engagements and interviews with UN officials. - Running engagement campaigns such as Q&A sessions and polls. - Monitoring trending topics and adapting content to boost visibility. - Developing platform-specific content strategies for social media and the website. - Planning and executing content calendars in alignment with UN campaigns. - Ensuring all content aligns with UN branding and messaging guidelines. - Identifying and engaging with local influencers and partners to amplify UN messages. - Assisting in organizing communication events. - Monitoring and reporting on media coverage of UN activities in Kuwait. - Performing any other related duties as assigned by the PIO.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). Alternatively, applicants may have graduated with a university degree.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Show the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, demonstrating tolerance and understanding of differing opinions.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes being enrolled in or having completed a university degree. This could be a graduate program or a bachelor's degree, which indicates that the intern should have a solid academic foundation to support their work in communication and public information.

Experience:

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position. Fluency means a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas: speaking, reading, writing, and understanding.
