The project seeks to establish integrated resource recovery facilities and multi-functional clean energy centers, which will serve as models for sustainable practices in urban environments. The successful candidate will be expected to engage with local communities, stakeholders, and partners to promote sustainable practices and ensure the effective implementation of project objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities for this position include:
Developing innovative proposals for sustainable waste management and e-waste management that align with the project objectives.
Collaborating with local communities and stakeholders to promote awareness and engagement in sustainable practices.
Establishing integrated resource recovery facilities and clean energy centers in designated project locations.
Conducting research and analysis to identify best practices and innovative solutions in waste management and energy efficiency.
Preparing project reports, including innovation reports, business models, and lessons learned documentation.
Developing a learning agenda to capture insights and challenges during the implementation of initiatives.
Ensuring that gender mainstreaming is incorporated into all project activities and initiatives.
Monitoring and evaluating project progress and outcomes, providing recommendations for improvements.
Engaging with UN Habitat and other partners to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals and objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in sustainable development, waste management, or a related field. They should have experience in project management, particularly in urban settings, and demonstrate a commitment to promoting sustainable practices. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Candidates should also have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to present complex information clearly and effectively. Familiarity with circular economy principles and gender mainstreaming in project implementation is highly desirable.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in environmental science, urban planning, sustainable development, or a related field. Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) are preferred, particularly for candidates with a focus on waste management or energy efficiency. Additional certifications in project management or sustainable practices may also be beneficial.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in sustainable development, waste management, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in urban settings, is highly valued. Proven track record of successfully managing projects from inception to completion, including stakeholder engagement and community involvement, is essential. Experience in developing innovative solutions and business models for sustainability initiatives is also important.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication for the project. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Zimbabwe, such as Shona or Ndebele, is considered an asset and would enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is part of a project that is expected to last a minimum of 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on project progress. The role is full-time and requires the successful candidate to work closely with UN Habitat's project team in Harare.
