Job Overview: The Finance Assistant position is crucial for the financial operations within the UN Health Care Center at the UN Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Senior Finance Assistant and will be responsible for various financial tasks including billing, cash collection, and financial reconciliations. The role requires a strong understanding of financial rules and regulations within the UN environment, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret financial data. The Finance Assistant will also assist in the preparation of financial reports and presentations, ensuring compliance with UN financial regulations. This position is integral to maintaining the financial integrity of the UN Health Care Center and supporting its operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Assistant will perform a variety of duties including extracting billing data from the Earthmed system, preparing service orders on Umoja for medical services, following up on approvals and submissions of invoices, and ensuring timely cash collection for medical services. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing detailed financial reconciliations, and updating patient data as necessary. Additional responsibilities include providing logistic support for meetings, drafting correspondence related to financial matters, and assisting with data analysis and presentations. The Finance Assistant will need to respond promptly to client inquiries and ensure compliance with financial rules and regulations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma, with a post-secondary certificate in finance or accounting being desirable. A university degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related fields is considered an advantage. The role requires a strong understanding of financial principles and practices, as well as the ability to apply these in a UN context. Knowledge of financial software and systems is essential, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and client orientation in their work.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma. However, candidates with a post-secondary certificate in finance or accounting are preferred. A university degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related fields is advantageous and may reduce the required years of experience for the position.
Experience: A minimum of five years of work experience in accounting or finance is required for this position. Candidates with a first-level university degree or higher may have the minimum experience requirement reduced to three years. Experience in cash collection and petty cash management is desirable, as well as at least one year of experience in data analytics or a related area. The role demands a solid background in financial operations and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's profile.
