Job Overview: The Offset Printing Operator position is situated within the Publications & Conference Management Section (PCMS) of UNECA. The role involves overseeing the production of official documents and publications, ensuring that offset printing equipment is operated according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The operator will coordinate work shifts, maintain equipment, and ensure safety standards are met. The position requires collaboration with desktop publishers and graphic designers to ensure clarity in job requirements. The operator will also be responsible for maintaining daily statistics, performing administrative tasks, and training junior staff. This role is crucial for ensuring the timely and efficient production of printed materials that support UNECA's mission.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Offset Printing Operator will be responsible for organizing and coordinating the work of a shift to ensure timely production of documents. Key duties include operating multi-color and single-color printing machines, maintaining equipment according to safety standards, and ensuring a clean work environment. The operator will distribute assignments to ensure efficient workflow, maintain daily production statistics, and perform troubleshooting and maintenance on printing equipment. The role also involves training junior staff, performing supervisory functions in the absence of the team leader, and assisting with data collection and analysis for reporting purposes. The operator may be required to work overtime and participate in weekend on-call duties as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in a production environment or offset printing. This requirement is reduced to five years for those with a first-level university degree or higher. Knowledge of document management workflows and advanced repair and maintenance skills are desirable. Experience in data analytics or related fields is also beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and technological awareness in their work.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. A bachelor's degree in electromechanical engineering or a related field is desirable, providing a foundation for understanding the technical aspects of offset printing and equipment operation.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in a production or offset printing environment. Candidates with a first-level university degree or higher may qualify with five years of experience. Additional experience in data analytics or related areas is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to contribute to data-driven decision-making processes.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in French is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication within the organization and with stakeholders.
