Job Overview:
The Senior Systems and Infrastructure Engineer plays a crucial role within the IAEA's Department of Safeguards, specifically within the Office of Information and Communication Systems (SGIS). This position involves designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's IT systems and infrastructure, ensuring they are reliable, scalable, and secure. The engineer will assess current systems, propose enhancements, and provide technical expertise to support business operations. This role is vital for ensuring secure and reliable interactions among servers, workstations, and various devices that support the Safeguards IT infrastructure. The engineer will also establish standards, policies, and procedures for the efficient and secure operation of the Department's computing and networking infrastructure, contributing to the overall mission of the IAEA.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Systems and Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for a variety of functions, including:
  • Designing, implementing, documenting, maintaining, and automating IT systems and infrastructure, including servers, storage, and cloud services.
  • Leading and participating as a team member in infrastructure and application-related projects.
  • Evaluating, testing, and documenting emerging technologies and trends to recommend innovative solutions that improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to management, team members, and end-users.
  • Collaborating closely with security coordinators and advisers to remediate security risks through technical and procedural endeavors.
  • Creating, implementing, and documenting infrastructure change requests to maintain and update the core infrastructure Configuration Management Database (CMDB), while adhering to formal change management procedures and ensuring data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Acting as a technical expert supporting procurement procedures for the acquisition of hardware, software, support, warranty, and consultation services related to core compute, storage, and system infrastructure. Coordinating procurement activities related to the Department’s core compute, storage, and system infrastructure, including maintenance, support, and warranty.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in fields related to information technology, computer science, or a related engineering field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in the same fields, along with two years of additional work experience, may be considered in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of seven years of experience in fields related to information technology, computer science, or related engineering. Advanced knowledge and expertise in the administration, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of Microsoft Exchange and email services are considered assets, as is experience with Linux-based server administration. Familiarity with ITIL and service management frameworks, log management, search and analytics platforms such as ELK, and cloud computing is also advantageous.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's Degree in information technology, computer science, or a related engineering field. A Bachelor's Degree in these fields, combined with relevant work experience, may also be acceptable. The emphasis is on advanced knowledge and expertise in IT systems and infrastructure, particularly in relation to the IAEA's mission and operational needs.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in information technology, computer science, or related engineering fields. This experience should encompass a broad range of IT systems and infrastructure management, with a focus on secure and reliable operations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in designing and implementing IT solutions, as well as managing complex technical challenges.

Languages:
A strong command of English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $77,326, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Additional benefits include a variable post adjustment currently amounting to US $44,772, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses, six weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, a pension plan, and health insurance.
