Job Overview: The Facilities Management Officer position is situated within the Corporate Logistics and Operational Support Team of the Infrastructure Services (CSLI) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. The role primarily focuses on supporting the maintenance activities of the headquarters and overseeing upgrade and building alteration projects related to facilities management. The officer will be responsible for ensuring that all technical installations at the headquarters premises, including high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) power systems, lighting, photovoltaic systems, security systems, lifts, and fire detection systems, are maintained and upgraded as necessary. Additionally, the officer will provide technical support to FAO's Decentralized Offices and will be involved in developing projects that align with the Corporate Environmental Responsibility Strategy. The position requires a proactive approach to streamline operations through the adoption of an Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS).
Duties and Responsibilities: The Facilities Management Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including supporting the maintenance of FAO headquarters facilities, which encompasses both civil and technical infrastructure. The officer will assist in planning and implementing major maintenance works, whether carried out by FAO staff, contractors, or the Italian authorities. Key duties include contributing to the design and cost estimation of infrastructural projects, monitoring the execution of works, certifying the quality and quantity of construction works and materials, preparing technical specifications and tender documents, and overseeing contractors' performance using modern project management tools. The officer will also assist in preparing payment schedules for construction projects, conduct research on innovative construction materials and technologies, and support initiatives aimed at reducing emissions and integrating sustainability into daily operations. Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in electrical engineering and have a minimum of three years of relevant experience in facilities management or in designing, planning, and implementing electrical projects in large buildings. A working knowledge of English at proficiency level C is required, along with intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) at level B.
