The Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD) was established in 2011 in partnership with the Government of Turkey. It is one of the six Global Policy Centres of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The mission of IICPSD is to support the private sector and foundations in becoming transformative partners in development. This is achieved through various means including research, advocacy for inclusive business, facilitation of public-private dialogue, and brokering partnerships. The Center operates globally, leading UNDP’s initiatives on private sector engagement and foundations, and supports UNDP offices worldwide. IICPSD focuses on four thematic areas: Inclusive Business, Private Sector Engagement in Skills Development, Impact Investing, and Resilience and Crisis Response. Additionally, it hosts four global initiatives: Business Call to Action, SDG Philanthropy Platform, Global Islamic Finance and Impact Investing Platform, and Connecting Business Initiative.

  • The role is crucial in the context of disaster response, where timely and accurate information is essential for coordinating relief and recovery efforts. Volunteers will engage in crowd mapping and data analysis to generate actionable insights that will inform decision-making processes for aid distribution and recovery planning. This remote assignment requires volunteers to utilize open data, satellite imagery, and reports from local sources to map damage, assess needs, and identify available resources. The insights generated from this work will directly assist humanitarian actors in their response efforts, making the role vital for effective disaster management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Online Volunteer include:
  • Gathering and validating location-based data related to the earthquake's impact.
  • Mapping affected areas using open-source tools and platforms.
  • Analyzing data to identify needs and available resources in the affected regions.
  • Collaborating with other volunteers and humanitarian partners to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the data collected.

Required Qualifications:

Educational Background:
A background in fields such as geography, data science, humanitarian studies, or related disciplines is preferred. However, candidates with relevant experience and skills may also be considered regardless of formal educational qualifications.

Experience:
While prior experience in disaster response or humanitarian work is advantageous, it is not strictly required. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of the role. Experience with data analysis and mapping tools will be highly beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language for communication within the organization. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Myanmar is considered a strong asset, as it can enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
