Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Coordination Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of OHCHR operations in Sudan. This position involves monitoring the security situation in the country, advising the Head of the Sudan Country Office on security matters, and developing strategies to mitigate risks associated with OHCHR activities. The officer is responsible for preparing security plans, conducting risk assessments, and maintaining communication with security focal points and other UN agencies. The role requires a proactive approach to security management, including the evaluation of local conditions, the establishment of emergency protocols, and the provision of training to staff on security measures. The Security Coordination Officer must demonstrate professionalism, effective communication, and teamwork to achieve organizational goals while ensuring the safety of personnel and operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Security Coordination Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: reviewing and monitoring the security situation in Sudan, advising the Head of the Sudan Country Office on security matters, developing and implementing security plans, conducting regular security risk assessments, maintaining communication with security focal points, participating in the United Nations Security Management Team, assessing local security conditions, maintaining evacuation routes and resources, ensuring fire safety measures are in place, providing training on residential security measures, maintaining dialogue with authorities during emergencies, ensuring the functionality of emergency communication systems, investigating accidents and security incidents, and conducting security training for staff. The officer will also perform other functions as directed by the Head of Office.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in security management, military, or police experience, with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in related fields. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of the UN Security Management System and experience working in high-risk environments. Knowledge of human rights and international law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">humanitarian law is desirable. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to handle stress effectively, apply technical skills in security management, and maintain a high level of professionalism in all interactions.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in security management, business administration, political/social science, psychology, international relations, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with a focus on security management or related disciplines, combined with two additional years of qualifying work experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Military or Police Academy degrees at the officer level may also be considered in lieu of the first-level university degree.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in military, police, security management, or a related area is required. Out of the five years, at least three years of experience working in the field is necessary. Experience with the UN Security Management System (UNSMS) is desirable, as is experience in the area of human rights or international humanitarian law.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable, as it may enhance communication and effectiveness in the local context. Proficiency in French is also beneficial, given its status as a working language of the UN.
