Job Overview: The Driver position is based in the Kassala Area Office, where the job holder will report to the Administration Officer or their designate. The primary function of this role is to provide efficient and safe transportation for authorized personnel and/or commodities. This includes driving light vehicles, trucks, vans, motorcycles, and potentially operating speed boats or other types of watercraft. The Driver is expected to ensure that all transportation services adhere to UN safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security regulations, thereby guaranteeing the safety of passengers and cargo. The role also involves basic administrative tasks when not driving, contributing to the overall operational efficiency of the office. The Driver will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle in good condition, keeping accurate logs, and reporting any mechanical issues to ensure the vehicle is always ready for use.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver's duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: transporting authorized personnel and delivering various items or commodities according to authorized routing; meeting official personnel and visitors at airports or other entry points and assisting with visa and customs formalities; maintaining accurate vehicle log books and reporting mechanical status to supervisors; ensuring the assigned vehicle is clean and well-maintained; following established rules for field deliveries and reporting any issues immediately; performing basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores when required; and assisting with the delivery and collection of various items, mailing services, and payment of office bills. The Driver must also adhere to safety standards and be prepared to assist in emergencies, demonstrating a client-oriented approach and high sense of responsibility.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and certification to operate assigned vehicles, following local rules and regulations. A completion of secondary school education is required. Additionally, candidates should have a demonstrated safe driving record and knowledge of driving rules, local roads, and security issues. The ability to read and interpret safety documents and manuals is essential, along with basic skills in first aid and emergency assistance. Candidates should also have the ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and perform minor repairs as needed.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. Formal driver training is essential, along with a valid driver’s license that certifies the individual to operate the assigned vehicle. This ensures that the candidate is well-versed in the necessary driving protocols and safety regulations.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of work experience as a Driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. Experience in driving various types of vehicles, including vans and trucks, is essential. Familiarity with defensive driving techniques is desirable, as is a proven track record of safe driving practices. This experience will ensure that the candidate is capable of handling the responsibilities of the role effectively.
Languages: The mandatory language requirement for this position is fluency in Arabic, while a basic level of English (writing, reading, and listening) is also required.
