Job Overview: The Gender-Based Violence Mainstreaming Coordinator will play a crucial role in integrating gender-based violence (GBV) considerations into all aspects of NRC's programming in Somalia. This position requires a deep understanding of GBV issues and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure that the needs of vulnerable populations are met. The coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that promote the prevention of GBV and support survivors. This includes conducting assessments, providing training to staff and partners, and ensuring that all programs are designed with a gender-sensitive lens. The role also involves monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of GBV interventions and advocating for the rights of affected individuals within the broader humanitarian response.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement GBV mainstreaming strategies across all NRC programs in Somalia.
Conduct regular assessments to identify GBV risks and needs within the communities served.
Provide training and capacity-building support to NRC staff and partners on GBV prevention and response.
Collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, and community-based organizations to enhance GBV response mechanisms.
Monitor and evaluate the impact of GBV interventions and report findings to management.
Advocate for the rights of GBV survivors and ensure their voices are heard in design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and implementation.
Ensure that all NRC programs adhere to safeguarding principles and contribute to a safe environment for all beneficiaries.
Prepare and submit reports on GBV activities and outcomes to donors and stakeholders.
Stay updated on GBV trends and best practices to inform program development.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in gender-based violence programming, particularly in humanitarian contexts.
Strong understanding of gender issues and the impact of GBV on communities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in diverse teams.
Experience in training and capacity building for staff and partners.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex issues.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in social work, gender studies, international relations, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in GBV programming or protection issues are highly desirable.
Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in GBV programming or protection roles within humanitarian settings is required. Experience in the Somali context or similar environments is an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Somali or other local languages is highly desirable and would be considered an asset.
