Job Overview:
The Programme Specialist, Communications and Business Development (CBD) will play a pivotal role in overseeing UNFPA Ghana’s communications and corporate visibility efforts, as well as partnerships and cooperation initiatives. This position requires collaboration with various teams within the Country Office, including programme, operations, and administrative support staff. The CBD Specialist will report directly to the UNFPA Representative and is expected to lead the CBD team in implementing strategies that align with UNFPA’s mission and the national priorities of Ghana. The role is crucial for raising awareness about UNFPA's work, enhancing its visibility, and expanding partnerships with stakeholders such as government entities, civil society, and the media. The position is designed to ensure that UNFPA's contributions to reproductive health, gender equality, and sustainable development are effectively communicated and recognized.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Specialist will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of UNFPA's Communication and Business Development Strategy. This includes overseeing all communications activities, ensuring alignment with UNFPA’s vision, and managing the production of communication materials. The Specialist will work closely with technical specialists to prepare speeches and other materials for the UNFPA Representative, develop relationships with media outlets, and monitor media coverage to enhance UNFPA's visibility. Additionally, the role involves creating a risk communications strategy, maintaining the UNFPA Ghana website, and supporting advocacy efforts through the development of communication plans for donor-funded projects. The Specialist will also engage in networking and partnership-building activities, participate in UN inter-agency communications groups, and assist in resource mobilization efforts by highlighting UNFPA’s impact and results in various forums.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Media/Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field, along with at least five years of progressively responsible experience in media, communications, or public relations at the national or international level. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in communication strategy development, excellent writing and research skills, and a proven track record of successful media engagement. Familiarity with UNFPA's mandate and experience in the multilateral system are advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based management systems is also required.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in Media/Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or an equivalent professional experience in communications is required. An advanced degree in a relevant discipline is also preferred, indicating a strong foundation in the principles and practices of effective communication.

Experience:
The position requires at least five years of professional experience in media, communications, journalism, or public relations, with a focus on development work. Candidates should demonstrate substantive knowledge and practical experience in communication strategy development and implementation, as well as a strong network of media contacts. Experience in writing reports, newsletters, and program updates is essential, along with familiarity with digital and social media tools.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of other official UN languages is considered desirable. This linguistic proficiency is crucial for effective communication within the UN system and with diverse stakeholders.
