The primary functions of the intern will involve supporting the Global Firearms Programme, which includes engaging in normative and intergovernmental work, providing technical assistance, and developing tools related to firearms issues. Interns will also assist in organizing workshops, meetings, and high-level events, as well as conducting research and drafting various technical documents and reports.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting the work of the Global Firearms Programme; assisting in the preparation of technical assistance workshops and meetings; conducting research on legal documents and open sources related to firearms; contributing to the drafting of technical documents, background papers, and reports; drafting correspondence and communications; attending meetings and taking notes; and performing other related tasks as necessary. The role requires a proactive approach to learning and contributing to the team's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Additionally, candidates must be computer literate in standard software applications and demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, along with a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is also essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes either a graduate degree or a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Candidates should be currently enrolled in a university program or have recently completed their studies, ensuring they possess the necessary academic qualifications to engage in the work of the UNODC.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in the work of the United Nations and its mission. Any previous internships or volunteer work related to international relations, law, or public policy would be advantageous but not required.
