Job Overview: The International Consultant position is designed to provide expert support in developing training materials and delivering training activities aimed at enhancing the capacity of various stakeholders, including state and non-state actors, community leaders, and youth leaders. The consultant will focus on promoting the protection of children against violence and fostering reconciliation and restorative justice processes. The role involves conceptualizing and executing workshops, virtual sessions, and consultations to develop strategic communication tools that address the needs of children in contexts of insecurity. The consultant will work closely with the UNODC team and Youth Peace Champions to ensure that the training materials are relevant and effective in promoting a culture of peace and lawfulness.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: developing the first draft of strategic communication tools for protecting children in insecure contexts; organizing online consultations with UNODC teams and Youth Peace Champions; conceptualizing and conducting virtual follow-up sessions for professionals working with children deprived of liberty; preparing and delivering workshops aimed at enhancing communication and advocacy skills among Youth Peace Champions; and creating training materials for security and law enforcement officials. The consultant will also be tasked with conducting research, drafting comprehensive concept notes, and ensuring follow-up on all activities to assess their effectiveness and impact.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, criminology, social science, international relations, international security, or a related field with a strong emphasis on international law and human rights. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in strategic communication, community-building methodologies, and working with vulnerable populations in emergency settings is required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical skills and the ability to produce clear and strategic outputs from complex information.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as law, criminology, social science, or international relations. The focus should be on international law, human rights, and criminal justice. A first-level university degree in similar fields, combined with extensive professional experience, may also be considered acceptable.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in developing and implementing strategic communication initiatives, particularly in vulnerable communities and emergency settings. Candidates should have a proven track record of utilizing innovative methodologies for community engagement and possess strong storytelling skills to enhance social cohesion. Experience working with the United Nations system on strategic communication is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent drafting and communication skills. Knowledge of another official United Nations language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's profile for this position.
