Job Overview:
The UN System Affairs Senior Analyst will play a crucial role in the UNOPS New York Board and External Relations Office (NYBER), focusing on inter-agency mechanisms and processes essential for advancing UNOPS' objectives within the broader UN system. The incumbent will report to the UN System Affairs Advisor and is expected to possess a solid understanding of international development and multilateralism. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. The role requires excellent analytical skills, the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively, and the ability to operate under pressure while maintaining discretion in politically sensitive situations. The position involves monitoring inter-agency processes, facilitating corporate engagement, contributing to reporting, and supporting knowledge sharing within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Monitoring and Analysis: Monitor relevant inter-agency processes, focusing on the UN development system and its repositioning efforts. Follow intergovernmental meetings and provide timely updates on significant issues affecting UNOPS. Conduct strategic analysis to identify opportunities and risks, and assist with data collection as needed.
  • Facilitate Corporate Engagement: Assist in facilitating the involvement of various groups at Headquarters and regional offices in UN system processes. Support preparations for UNOPS' engagement in high-level inter-agency forums and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to Reporting: Prepare updates for the Executive Board and coordinate inputs for UN reporting requirements. Provide coordination support to internal stakeholders involved in UN system-wide coherence processes.
  • Knowledge Building: Identify areas needing updates and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives. Collect feedback and provide regular updates on existing systems and tools to ensure their relevance.
  • Perform any other related duties as required to support NYBER's objectives and the team's effective functioning.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Public Administration, International Development, Political Science, or International Relations. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree combined with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree. A minimum of two years of relevant experience in international development, public affairs, or advocacy is required, with prior experience in the UN system being essential. Coordination experience and the ability to establish relationships with UN entities and development organizations are also required. Knowledge of inter-agency and intergovernmental processes is desirable.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in a relevant field is required. A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) combined with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree. This educational background ensures that candidates have the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform effectively in the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant experience in international development, public affairs, or a related area. Experience working within the UN system is essential, as is coordination experience and the ability to establish relationships with UN entities, development organizations, and government counterparts. Knowledge of inter-agency and intergovernmental processes is considered an asset.

Languages:
Full working knowledge of English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the diverse UN environment and with various stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The contract type for this position is an Individual Contractor Agreement (ICA), specifically at the IICA1, ICS9 level. The contract duration is ongoing and open-ended, subject to organizational requirements, availability of funds, and satisfactory performance.
