Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director (CD) serves as the official representative of Solidarités International in Ukraine, overseeing the smooth operation of the mission. The CD is responsible for proposing and implementing the mission strategy in alignment with the geopolitical and humanitarian context. This role involves monitoring project progress to ensure compliance with SI's charter and internal procedures, mobilizing necessary resources for effective program execution, and ensuring the safety of the teams. The CD will also act as the direct liaison with SI's headquarters, navigating the challenges of a relatively young mission that requires significant transformation, including a shift towards reconstruction and development projects, localization of management, and engagement with donors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Country Director's primary responsibilities include:
  • Proposing and implementing the mission strategy based on the humanitarian context.
  • Monitoring project progress and ensuring compliance with SI's charter and internal procedures.
  • Mobilizing material and financial resources necessary for program execution.
  • Coordinating teams and ensuring their safety during missions.
  • Leading the transition towards reconstruction and development projects.
  • Implementing localization strategies by replacing expatriate managers with local colleagues.
  • Engaging with donors and managing relationships with local authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting the development of organizational structures and communication channels.
  • Enhancing mission visibility through networking within the humanitarian ecosystem. 1
  • Preparing for strategic reviews and improving coordination mechanisms between bases and the coordination office.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Humanitarian Affairs or a related field. They should have at least 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with 3-4 years in a similar leadership position. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong management and leadership skills, networking abilities, and the capacity to mobilize resources effectively. They should also possess negotiation and diplomacy skills, adaptability, and resilience under stress.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Humanitarian Affairs or an equivalent qualification is required for this position. This educational background should provide a solid foundation in humanitarian principles, project management, and strategic planning.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 3-4 years in a similar role, such as a Country Director or in senior management within humanitarian organizations. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing complex projects and leading teams in challenging environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, while proficiency in French is considered desirable. Strong communication skills in both languages will be essential for effective engagement with stakeholders and team members.

  • The role is based in Kyiv, Ukraine, and involves a salary starting from EUR 3,740 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly Per Diem of USD 700 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. The organization offers a break system, allowing for time off every three months, and provides a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare and essential vaccinations.
