Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
UNICEF Romania is dedicated to the social inclusion of all children, focusing on preventing unnecessary separation from families, poverty, early pregnancies, illness, discrimination, absenteeism, and school dropouts. The organization has developed two key models: The Minimum Package of Services for vulnerable children and their families, and the Quality Inclusive Education Package. These initiatives are designed to be scaled up nationwide with national or European funding. UNICEF Romania also engages in Communication for Social Change campaigns to prevent discrimination and violence against children, empowering parents and caregivers to create a protective environment for every child. The organization mobilizes resources from private individuals, companies, and foundations to support children in Romania and beyond. Established to address the needs of children, UNICEF operates in various countries, focusing on equity and inclusion, especially in high-income nations like Romania, where inequities still exist.

Job Overview:
The UN Youth Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF Romania's mission by providing technical support in knowledge management and documentation. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Planning and Monitoring Officer, focusing on evidence synthesis and analysis to aid in program review processes. The role involves creating visual tools to transform complex data into accessible formats for decision-makers, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of communication and advocacy efforts. Additionally, the volunteer will assist in the digitalization of knowledge management, contributing to the development of advocacy papers and factsheets, and supporting the capacity development of the country office staff in these areas. The position is integral to ensuring that UNICEF's operations align with regional and global standards, particularly as Romania transitions to a high-income country.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Youth Volunteer include:
  • Providing support in evidence synthesis to facilitate progress assessment and prioritization for program reviews.
  • Developing visual tools and transforming data into visually compelling formats, such as dashboards, charts, and graphs, to aid decision-makers.
  • Assisting in the digitalization of knowledge management by contributing to advocacy papers and factsheets.
  • Supporting the capacity development of country office staff in digitalization and visualization product development.
  • Documenting and preparing reports that illustrate the transition process of UNICEF operations in Romania as it moves to high-income status.
  • Liaising with the Knowledge Management team to ensure alignment with regional documentation processes.
  • Performing any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring high-quality support for UNICEF's interventions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to teamwork and respect for diversity. They should possess strong planning and organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and flexibility. A genuine commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement, including solidarity, compassion, reciprocity, and self-reliance, is essential. Additionally, candidates should align with UNICEF's mission and vision, as well as the UN Core Values. The competencies required for this position include building and maintaining partnerships, self-awareness and ethical awareness, a drive to achieve results for impact, innovation and adaptability to change, strategic thinking, and collaborative work with others.

Educational Background:
The position requires a relevant educational background, typically at least a bachelor's degree in fields related to social sciences, public policy, international development, or a related area. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in knowledge management, data visualization, or advocacy will be preferred. Educational qualifications should reflect a strong understanding of the issues facing children and families, particularly in the context of high-income countries.

Experience:
Candidates should have some level of experience in knowledge management, data analysis, or related fields. While specific years of experience may not be mandated, familiarity with UNICEF's mission and operations, as well as experience in working with vulnerable populations, will be advantageous. Experience in developing visual tools for data presentation and knowledge sharing is highly desirable, as is any previous volunteer or internship experience in similar roles.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within UNICEF and for documentation purposes. Knowledge of Romanian is highly desirable, given the local context and the need for effective communication with stakeholders. Additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse communities and partners.
