Job Overview: The Driver position at UNFPA is crucial for providing reliable and safe transportation services to the Representative, Deputy Representative, high-ranking UN officials, and visitors. The Driver will be expected to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact, and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. The position involves not only driving but also ensuring the safety and maintenance of the vehicle, managing logistics related to transportation, and assisting with administrative duties as needed. The Driver will report directly to the International Operations Manager and play a key role in facilitating the smooth operation of UNFPA's activities in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: driving office vehicles for the transport of UNFPA staff, officials, and visitors; delivering and collecting mail and documentation; meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and managing visa and customs formalities when required; maintaining awareness of traffic, road, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues to ensure safe and timely arrivals for meetings; managing all aspects of vehicle maintenance, including conducting minor repairs, cleaning, and arranging for major repairs and services; keeping daily vehicle logs and assisting in the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and history reports; tracking insurance and tax formalities; acting as a translator in the local language for official passengers when necessary; guiding and coaching junior drivers as appropriate; and assisting CO staff with general administrative duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have at least three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record. Additionally, candidates should have a solid understanding of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads and conditions, and defensive driving skills. Skills in minor vehicle repairs are also required. The ideal candidate will exemplify integrity, demonstrate commitment to UNFPA and the UN system, embrace cultural diversity, and be adaptable to change. Core competencies include achieving results, accountability, developing and applying professional expertise, analytical and strategic thinking, and effective teamwork.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is completed secondary level education. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities and duties associated with the role of a Driver in an international organization.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience as a driver, particularly in an international organization, embassy, or within the UN system. This experience should include a demonstrated safe driving record and familiarity with the protocols and procedures associated with driving for high-ranking officials and dignitaries.
Languages: Fluency in French is required for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Additionally, fluency in English is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international staff and visitors.
