Job Overview:
The position of Digital Specialist and Translator at UNEP's Central Asia Office in Almaty involves a dual role that combines expertise in translation and digital communication. The incumbent will be responsible for translating content from English to Russian, ensuring that all relevant materials are accurately conveyed to Russian-speaking audiences. This includes translating stories, press releases, speeches, and publications, as well as proofreading content for the Russian language website. The role also encompasses managing UNEP's social media strategy for Russian-speaking audiences, which involves translating social media content, maintaining social media channels, and engaging with the audience to promote UNEP's work. The incumbent will need to stay updated on technological advancements in digital platforms and translation methods, ensuring that UNEP's communications are effective and reach the intended audience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will perform a variety of functions under the supervision of the Head of UNEP's Central Asia Office. Key responsibilities include:
  • Translating relevant content from English to Russian and ensuring timely posting on the UNEP Russian language website.
  • Proofreading all content posted on the Russian language website to maintain high standards of accuracy and quality.
  • Coordinating the review of existing Russian-language sections of the UNEP website to identify areas needing revision.
  • Updating content on the UNEP Russian website to ensure it remains current and relevant.
  • Executing social media strategies tailored for Russian-speaking audiences, including translating social media content and maintaining engagement with followers.
  • Promoting UNEP's work and messages to Russian language stakeholders through effective communication and outreach activities.
  • Analyzing social media statistics and adjusting content strategies to maximize reach and engagement.
  • Supporting requests from the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director related to Russian-language audiences and her official travel.
  • Participating in other Communication Division activities such as training, meetings, and workshops. 1
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in translation, particularly from English to Russian, and have experience in digital communication. The ideal candidate should demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to teamwork and respect for diversity. Additionally, candidates should exhibit strong planning and organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and a willingness to engage in continuous learning. Flexibility in adapting to changing circumstances and technologies is also essential for success in this role.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in communications, translation, environmental science, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in translation or digital communication would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of environmental issues and the ability to communicate complex topics effectively to diverse audiences.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in translation and digital communication, preferably within an international organization or a similar context. Experience in managing social media platforms and developing content strategies for diverse audiences is highly desirable. Familiarity with environmental issues and the workings of the United Nations system would be an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Russian is mandatory, with strong writing and translation skills in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Kazakh, would be considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader audience.

Additional Notes:
This position is a full-time role based in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The incumbent will receive a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance of USD 1173, along with a one-time pre-assignment entry lump sum of USD 40

An exit allowance will be paid upon successful completion of the assignment. The position is open to both national and international candidates.
