The organization operates in over 100 countries and employs thousands of professionals dedicated to environmental sustainability and advocacy. UNEP FI, a partnership between UNEP and the global financial sector, was created in the wake of the 1992 Earth Summit and aims to promote sustainable finance by engaging with over 350 financial institutions, including banks, insurers, and investors, to address environmental, social, and governance challenges.

Job Overview:
The intern will play a crucial role in supporting UNEP FI's communications, digital, and events strategy. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about sustainable finance and environmental issues and are eager to contribute to the mission of UNEP FI. The intern will assist in various tasks that are essential for raising awareness and promoting the adoption of sustainable finance practices among stakeholders. The role will involve a mix of writing, editing, and managing digital content, as well as coordinating events that advance the sustainable finance agenda. The intern will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals in the field and gain valuable insights into the intersection of finance and environmental sustainability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's daily responsibilities may vary based on their background and the internship period, but will generally include: assisting with the writing, editing, and design of communication content such as newsletters, social media posts, event announcements, and web content; managing day-to-day updates and content development for the UNEP FI website; conducting media outreach and managing social media communications; coordinating logistics for events, including virtual events and webinars; supporting the rollout of new digital tools and developing best practice guidelines; and utilizing social media and video editing skills to enhance communication efforts. The intern will be expected to engage with various stakeholders and contribute to the overall mission of UNEP FI by promoting sustainable finance initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree and must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Preferred educational backgrounds include communications, journalism, environmental studies, development studies, economics, business administration, finance, or related fields. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Educational Background:
Candidates must be a student in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment from the current university is required for those who have not yet graduated. Experience:
While no professional work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme, candidates should have relevant academic training or coursework that aligns with the internship's focus. This means that applicants should have a solid understanding of communications, environmental issues, or finance, as these areas are integral to the responsibilities of the internship. The emphasis is on the candidate's ability to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting and contribute effectively to UNEP FI's mission.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French, is desirable and can enhance a candidate's application. Proficiency in additional languages may also be beneficial, particularly in communicating with diverse stakeholders and audiences.

Additional Notes:
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and all costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer. It is important to note that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, and applicants should be cautious of any requests for payment or personal banking information.
