Job Posting Organization: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global organization that operates in over 170 countries and territories, including Kazakhstan. Established in 1992, UNDP has been instrumental in the country's development progress, implementing more than 200 projects valued at over 200 million USD. The organization focuses on eradicating poverty, reducing inequalities, and promoting sustainable development through various initiatives, including environmental governance, anti-corruption efforts, and the promotion of human rights.
Job Overview: The position involves providing research support to enhance UNDP's programming in local governance, local development, innovation, and capacity building. The selected candidate will contribute to evidence-based project development by gathering and analyzing information related to the breeding of the Semirechensk pheasant in Kazakhstan. This research will play a crucial role in supporting UNDP's mission to promote sustainable development and effective governance at the local level. The candidate will be responsible for compiling relevant resources, documenting breeding processes, and categorizing associated costs, thereby enriching the organization's knowledge base in these priority areas.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify and compile links to articles, videos, and publications about breeding the Semirechensk pheasant in Kazakhstan, ensuring a minimum of 3-5 comprehensive resources are included in a Microsoft Word document.
Document the entire breeding process of the Semirechensky pheasant, detailing each stage from egg collection to the release of adults into an open enclosure. This documentation should include main actions, equipment used, and recommendations for performers, with links to sources where applicable.
Create a detailed list of costs associated with each stage of the breeding process, classifying them into investment costs (one-time expenses for equipment and structures) and operating costs (recurring expenses such as feed, transport fuel, and payroll). The list should be exhaustive, ensuring no costs are overlooked, although specific amounts do not need to be provided.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong research skills, with the ability to identify and synthesize information from various sources. Proficiency in Microsoft Word is essential for documentation purposes. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to organize information clearly and concisely. Familiarity with local governance and development issues in Kazakhstan will be an advantage, as will experience in environmental or agricultural research.
Educational Background: A background in environmental science, agriculture, public administration, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant academic qualifications or certifications in research methodologies will be highly regarded.
Experience: While specific years of experience are not mandated, candidates should have some practical experience in research or project support roles, particularly in areas related to local governance, environmental management, or agricultural practices. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in Kazakh or Russian is highly desirable, given the local context and the need to engage with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is part-time and may involve remote work, depending on the candidate's location and the nature of the tasks. The contract duration is project-based, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and benefits may include opportunities for professional development and training.
