The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (RCO) play a crucial role in supporting countries in their development priorities and SDG attainment, with the UN Resident Coordinator serving as the highest-ranking UN official in the country. Job Overview: The Development Coordination Officer / Economist position is integral to the UN Resident Coordination Office in Honduras. The role focuses on providing evidence-based analysis and substantive advice regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and economic transformation. The officer will work closely with the Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) to facilitate SDG acceleration, advocate for strong partnerships, and coordinate the development of integrated SDG programming. The position requires a deep understanding of sustainable development, economic policies, and financing mechanisms to effectively support the UN's mission in Honduras. The officer will also be responsible for knowledge generation and management related to sustainable development trends and challenges, ensuring that the UNCT is well-informed and equipped to address these issues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct evidence-based analysis of the status of the SDGs, providing advice on SDG acceleration, economic transformation, and financing.
Support advocacy efforts for partnerships within the UN System and with national counterparts, including International Financial Institutions (IFIs).
Coordinate the development of an integrated SDG programming cycle, including roadmaps and monitoring frameworks.
Plan and direct knowledge management around SDG acceleration and financing, promoting collaboration and sharing of best practices.
Research and analyze data on sustainable development trends, challenges, and opportunities, providing insights to the UNCT.
Prepare UN flagship reports on SDG acceleration and financing, ensuring data-driven recommendations for policy interventions.
Engage with stakeholders to foster partnerships and identify opportunities for collaboration on SDG-related initiatives.
Monitor regional and global economic trends, analyzing their implications for SDG acceleration at the country level.
Provide economic analysis and advice to support cross-pillar approaches in humanitarian-development-peace nexus contexts. 1
Ensure effective communication and collaboration with UNCT counterparts to align advocacy topics and policy support options.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development policy, economic research, and analysis. A strong understanding of development economics and relevant experience at the national or international level is essential. Familiarity with the SDGs and the UN's normative agenda is desirable, along with demonstrated experience in coordinating multi-stakeholder processes. Candidates should have outstanding analytical and writing skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly. Proficiency in using statistical analysis software and office applications is also required.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics, development studies, public policy, or public finance is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in sustainable development policy, economic research, and analysis. Candidates should have a proven track record in applying development economics theory to practical contexts and conducting high-quality economic research. Experience in coordinating multi-stakeholder initiatives and participatory assessments is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish is required for this position. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered an advantage. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'Fluent' in all four areas (reading, speaking, writing, and understanding).
