Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Africa Regional Division of GIZ, which is responsible for implementing German development cooperation programs in Sub-Saharan African countries. The internship is divided equally between the Group for Sector Processes/Advisory Services and the Sector Economics unit. The Sector Processes/Advisory Services group supports leaders in the Africa division with corporate policy and strategic processes, communication, public relations, event preparation, and analysis of continent-wide themes and trends. The Sector Economics unit provides research, analysis, and advisory services on macroeconomic, socioeconomic, and political-economic trends in GIZ's partner countries and across Africa. This role facilitates knowledge transfer on these topics within GIZ and contributes to the organization's overall knowledge management. The Sector Economics unit also advises leaders on the implications of identified trends for portfolio development and supports external communication efforts. Additionally, it engages in building and maintaining networks with academia and other relevant institutions in Africa and globally, representing GIZ at external events, and managing partnerships with the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern, you will have the following responsibilities:
Support in conducting development economic analyses and briefings, creating presentations, and preparing economic data on key macroeconomic, socioeconomic, and political-economic developments and topics in Africa.
Develop presentations and articles to communicate project examples and key themes from the Africa division.
Assist in preparing and conducting events for the division, including creating summaries of important reports and compiling regular press reviews.
Maintain the intranet presence of the Africa division.
Collaborate on topics related to 'Cooperation with the EU' by preparing briefings and other relevant materials.
Contribute to internal digitalization efforts.
Assist in addressing inquiries related to various topics and summarizing or preparing responses.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completed undergraduate degree in economics, regional studies, or social sciences. They should demonstrate excellent written communication skills in both German and English, with good proficiency in French being advantageous. Strong analytical and organizational skills are essential, along with a high level of motivation and initiative. Candidates should be proactive in providing support where needed and ideally have engaged with African trends and topics, as well as development cooperation, during their studies. Experience in African countries, particularly in development cooperation, is desirable.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to have completed an undergraduate degree in fields such as economics, regional studies, or social sciences. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of development economics and the socio-political landscape of Africa, which are central to the internship's responsibilities.
Experience: The internship is designed for candidates who are currently enrolled in a degree program, are in a training program that requires an internship, or have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship. While prior experience in development cooperation or related fields is beneficial, it is not strictly required, making this position suitable for recent graduates or students seeking practical experience.
Languages: Proficiency in German and English is mandatory, with good knowledge of French considered a valuable asset. This multilingual requirement reflects the diverse linguistic landscape of the countries in which GIZ operates and the need for effective communication across various stakeholders.
