Job Overview:
The Social Media Specialist position is integral to the Digital Team within the Media and Communications Branch of UNFPA. This role involves overseeing and executing the daily social media strategy for UNFPA's global channels. The incumbent will work closely with the Head of Digital Communications to ensure that social media content aligns with current events and trends, effectively engaging with the organization's core audience, which includes the general public, policymakers, donors, and influencers. The specialist will be responsible for planning and delivering creative social media campaigns that raise awareness about UNFPA's mission and initiatives, while also advising on crisis management related to social media.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Social Media Specialist will lead the planning and execution of the social media strategy aimed at engaging core target audiences. Key responsibilities include leveraging social media trends and the news cycle to drive engagement, ideating and delivering creative campaigns, producing copy for various platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube, and evaluating visual assets for social media use. The specialist will coordinate with internal stakeholders for content planning, provide strategic guidance to the Social Media Team, maintain an editorial calendar, and collaborate with graphic designers for campaign materials. Additionally, the role involves advising on reputational crises and ensuring effective communication during critical moments.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as journalism, strategic communications, public relations, or advertising/marketing. A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in social media visibility and engagement is required, along with demonstrated experience in creative visual storytelling and multimedia content development. Proven success in leveraging current events for engagement, experience in humanitarian crisis awareness, and familiarity with design tools are also essential. Strong project management skills, sound editorial judgment, and the ability to handle reputational issues on social media are critical for this role.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in journalism, strategic communications, public relations, or advertising/marketing is required for this position. This educational background ensures that the candidate has the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage social media strategies and content creation.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in social media management, with a focus on driving visibility and engagement. Candidates should have a proven track record in creative content development and experience in managing social media during humanitarian crises. Familiarity with social media management platforms and analytical tools is also important, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Languages:
Fluency in English with excellent drafting and editorial skills is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages such as French, Spanish, or Arabic is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
