Job Overview: The Communication Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Project Manager and the project team in the implementation of the Climate Adaptation, Water and Energy Programme (CAWEP). This position involves generating and updating project site profiles, capturing and disseminating project stories, lessons learned, and best practices. The officer will assist in organizing public events, contribute to the development of a communications and knowledge management system, and support social media engagement. The role requires timely development of visibility and communication materials, as well as project reporting. The Communication Officer will also engage in activities that promote volunteerism and community engagement, thereby enhancing the visibility of UNDP's work in Zimbabwe.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Generating and continuously updating all project site profiles to ensure accurate and current information is available.
Capturing and disseminating project stories, lessons learned, best practices, and knowledge products to enhance project visibility.
Assisting in organizing public events such as roundtable discussions, seminars, press conferences, and promotional campaigns.
Contributing to the development and maintenance of a comprehensive communications and knowledge management system for the projects.
Supporting social media engagements, including weekly updates on UNDP's global platforms.
Leading the timely development of project visibility and communication materials.
Assisting in project reporting through writing and editing reports.
Engaging in activities that promote volunteerism and community involvement, including writing articles for UNV publications and assisting with the UNV Buddy Programme.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively. Proficiency in using social media platforms for engagement and outreach is essential. The ideal candidate should have experience in organizing public events and managing communications strategies. Familiarity with climate change adaptation, water, and energy issues will be an advantage. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism and community engagement, showcasing their ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, environmental science, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of communication principles and practices, particularly in the context of development work and climate change.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of development projects, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations will be an added advantage. The ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to changing circumstances is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNDP. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Zimbabwe will be considered an asset, as it can enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time role based in Harare, Zimbabwe. The contract duration is typically for the duration of the project, with potential for extension based on performance and project needs. The role may involve occasional travel within Zimbabwe to support project activities.
