Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located within the UNODC Corruption and Economic Crime Branch (CEB), which is responsible for supporting the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). The intern will gain valuable experience in legal research, the functioning of intergovernmental bodies, and the mechanisms for reviewing the implementation of international treaties. The role involves assisting in various research activities, analyzing legal documents, and drafting correspondence. Interns will also have the opportunity to learn about thematic areas related to anti-corruption, such as judicial integrity and youth empowerment, while working closely with experienced staff members.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will undertake a variety of duties, including but not limited to: conducting legal research into States' efforts to implement UNCAC; selecting and analyzing relevant materials; assisting in the review of legal documents and identifying key issues; drafting correspondence to States parties; and performing other assigned duties. The intern may also be exposed to thematic workstreams developed by CEB, which could include drafting legal analyses, supporting intergovernmental bodies, and enhancing understanding of anti-corruption education and whistle-blower protection.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: Candidates should be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion of the required educational level must be attached to the application. The field of study should be closely related to the internship type being applied for, and applicants should explain how they meet this requirement.
Experience: No prior working experience is required to apply for this internship. However, candidates should have a field of study that aligns with the internship's focus, such as law, international relations, or public policy. Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of five days per week (40 hours). The expected duration of the internship is between 3 to 6 months. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Additionally, candidates who are not citizens or permanent residents of Austria may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
