Job Overview:
The Training Coordinator-Medical is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of medical training for CASEVAC (Casualty Evacuation) under the Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health. This role involves leading the coordination of the CASEVAC medical training program, which includes developing and delivering training courses, monitoring and evaluating training effectiveness, and ensuring that training operations align with established standards. The coordinator will work closely with UN country offices and participating nations to facilitate training exercises and manage training logistics. The position requires a strong understanding of medical training within peacekeeping contexts and the ability to apply various administrative rules and regulations effectively. The coordinator will also be responsible for identifying risks associated with training and developing strategies to mitigate them, ensuring that the training program meets the needs of all stakeholders involved.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Training Coordinator-Medical will perform a variety of duties, including: identifying and developing the United Nations CASEVAC strategy and policy; coordinating the implementation of medical training courses; liaising with project teams and UN country offices regarding training exercises; managing training needs analysis visits; overseeing the work of training and support staff; coordinating the establishment of CASEVAC stress tests in field missions; reviewing submissions for trainee eligibility; organizing training activities and liaising with headquarters staff; advising and supporting TCCs (Troop Contributing Countries) and UN organizations on CASEVAC matters; and performing other duties as assigned by the CASEVAC strategy. The role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage conflicting priorities, and a commitment to gender equality in all training activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in healthcare, particularly in adult learning and training methodologies. The position requires knowledge of medical training courses relevant to peacekeeping and the ability to coordinate a variety of training programs. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, planning and organizing skills, and creativity in developing training solutions. The ability to analyze issues and participate in problem resolution is essential, as is the capacity to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively. Additionally, candidates should be committed to incorporating gender perspectives in their work and ensuring equal participation of women and men in all training activities.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in healthcare or related fields is required. Alternatively, a first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of study, combined with two additional years of relevant work experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background ensures that candidates have a solid foundation in healthcare principles and practices necessary for the role.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in a healthcare-related field, with a focus on adult learning, training, logistics, and project management. Of these seven years, at least two years must be dedicated to developing and delivering medical training programs. Experience in adult learning and training needs analysis, as well as managing medical training courses, is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have experience in a national or international peacekeeping environment and familiarity with implementing international medical structures and policies similar to those of the UN or other international organizations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another United Nations official language, such as French, is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's qualifications for the role.

Additional Notes:
This position is a project post with an initial appointment period of one year, financed by the Extra-budgetary fund. The appointment is subject to the availability of the post or funds and budgetary approval. Selected candidates will receive a fixed-term appointment limited (FTA-limited) in accordance with UN administrative instructions.
