The Senior Reviser plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of translations within the United Nations. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Reviser will be responsible for revising translations across various subjects, ensuring they meet the required standards of accuracy and clarity. Key responsibilities include translating texts, drafting and revising summary records, providing feedback to colleagues, and promoting the use of language technologies. The Senior Reviser will also oversee the work of other revisers and translators, assign tasks, and assist in programming long-term work. Quality control of externally produced translations is a critical duty, as is advising on the selection of texts for competitive examinations. The Senior Reviser will also engage in cross-assignments and lead efforts to collect and analyze data for planning and reporting purposes. In the absence of the Chief, the Senior Reviser may serve as Officer-in-Charge and is expected to perform other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, including excellent writing skills and a strong grasp of various subjects relevant to the United Nations. The ability to work under pressure, maintain accuracy, and demonstrate versatility and discretion is essential. Educational Background:
A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status is required for this position. Additionally, candidates must have passed the relevant United Nations Competitive Examination for English Translators/Précis-Writers or the combined examination for English Translators, Editors, and Verbatim Reporters. There is a provision for waiving this requirement for candidates who passed relevant examinations before 2017, subject to an assessment test.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least ten years of experience in translation or a related language field, with a minimum of four years specifically in revision. Out of the total experience, eight years should ideally be within the United Nations Common System or similar international organizations, demonstrating a deep understanding of the unique challenges and standards of translation in a global context.

Languages:
A perfect command of English is mandatory, as it is the candidate's main language. Additionally, candidates must possess excellent knowledge of two other official languages of the United Nations, which will be assessed during the competitive examination process. Proficiency in French is particularly relevant given the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
