Job Overview: The Senior Economist - Area Based Development position is designed to provide expert economic analysis and strategic guidance for area-based development initiatives in the Solomon Islands. Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in economics, with a focus on development economics or a related field. A proven track record of conducting economic research and analysis is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate experience in policy formulation and implementation, particularly in the context of developing countries. Strong analytical skills, proficiency in statistical software, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders are also required. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to effectively convey complex economic concepts to non-specialists.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Economics, Development Studies, or a related field is required. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's competitiveness. Specialized training in economic modeling, statistical analysis, or project management is also advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in economic analysis, policy development, or project management, preferably within the context of international development. Experience working in the Pacific region or with small island developing states is highly desirable. Proven experience in engaging with government officials, local communities, and international organizations will be considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the UNDP. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the Solomon Islands would be an advantage, as it would facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as an individual contractor role for a period of 40 days over six months. The contract is expected to be full-time, with flexibility in work hours to accommodate project needs.
