Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the 'Working together to fight antimicrobial resistance (AMR)' project, which is part of the Animal Health and Production Module and the One Health Regional Priority Program. This position involves providing technical support and guidance under the supervision of the Animal Health and Production Officer. The consultant will be responsible for finalizing and disseminating AMR surveillance guidelines, examining spatial mapping of AMR emergence, and piloting AMR surveillance protocols in various countries. The role also includes preparing educational materials for farmers regarding waste management and the implications of AMR in the environment, thereby contributing to the overall goal of reducing antimicrobial use in agricultural practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties include supporting the finalization of AMR surveillance guidelines, summarizing key messages related to AMR surveillance, examining spatial mapping of AMR risks, and piloting surveillance protocols in Asia-Pacific countries. Additionally, the consultant will assess the implications of UNEP/WHO publications on wastewater management for farm animal production, provide technical input for integrated AMR surveillance, and prepare fact sheets for producers. The consultant will also lead activities related to RENOFARM, identify stakeholders, draft guidance notes, and prepare fact sheets on the environmental impacts of antimicrobials. Furthermore, the consultant will assist in producing training modules, prepare web articles, and provide technical advice to FAO's decentralized offices.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree relevant to environmental or natural sciences, agriculture, veterinary medicine, public health, or epidemiology. They should have at least five years of relevant experience in environmental policy and management, particularly in multi-sectoral engagement and zoonotic disease management. Excellent working knowledge of English is mandatory, along with competencies in results focus, teamwork, communication, and building effective relationships. Technical skills in microbiological surveillance and collaboration with diverse stakeholders are also essential.
Educational Background: A university degree in relevant fields such as environmental sciences, agriculture, veterinary medicine, public health, or epidemiology is required. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of antimicrobial resistance and its implications in agricultural practices.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of relevant experience at both national and international levels.
