Job Overview:
The Security Assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of FAO personnel and assets in Ukraine, particularly in Lviv. This position requires close coordination with various security teams and local authorities to monitor and assess the security situation, implement safety protocols, and respond to security incidents. The Security Assistant will be responsible for maintaining security arrangements at FAO facilities, conducting security briefings for personnel, and supporting the implementation of the FAO Security Notification System. The role demands a proactive approach to security management and the ability to work under pressure while ensuring compliance with established safety policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be tasked with monitoring and assessing the security situation in Lviv oblast, applying and overseeing the implementation of the United Nations Security Management System policies, and maintaining close coordination with the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and other agencies. Responsibilities include ensuring the protection of FAO personnel and assets, conducting security assessments, supporting UN joint missions, providing security briefings, coordinating emergency headcounts, conducting safety drills, managing security equipment, and assisting in drafting security-related documentation. The Security Assistant will also be expected to perform other related duties as required by FAO.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in emergency management, social/political science, military science, public administration, law enforcement, law, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in security, preferably in military or police contexts, is required. Additionally, candidates must have a working knowledge or native proficiency in Russian and Ukrainian, and a limited knowledge of English. Nationality of Ukraine is also a requirement for this position.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in fields related to emergency management, social or political sciences, military science, public administration, law enforcement, or law. The degree must be from an institution accredited or recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience in security, ideally within military or police contexts. Experience working with the UN system or related organizations is considered an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and manage security processes effectively.

Languages:
Mandatory languages for this position include Russian and Ukrainian, both at a working or native level (Level C). A limited knowledge of English (Level B) is also required, which may be beneficial for communication within the organization and with international partners.
